Treadmills still continue to be the #1 most popular piece of exercise equipment we sell. Even with the current surge in popularity of elliptical machines, the treadmill still offers the most natural and effective form of exercise. We shop the industry to bring our customers the best treadmills on the market within their respective price classes. Because of the popularity of treadmills, numerous reviews come out each year. You will see reviews from Consumer Reports, Wall Street Journal, Runners World, Health Magazine, and numerous websites. We encourage people to do their research, but ultimately the best review is going to be you getting on the machines are trying them out. On paper, or web, any company can make their machine sound as durable as the next. However, getting on the machine and testing the sturdiness, quietness, cushioning, control keys and overall ergonomics of the machine is the best way to find a treadmill that will fit your needs.

SHOPPING FOR A TREADMILL? LET US HELP YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT
First off, remember these two facts of treadmill shopping: (1) You get what you pay for. A $1,000 treadmill may serve you well, but a $3,000 machine is likely to perform better for a longer time. (2) Treadmill preferences are subjective, nonetheless. A machine that "feels" great to one person may feel uncomfortable to another.

Find a good store. Of course we want you to purchase from us, but we highly encourage a specialty store as opposed to a chain store. If your looking at this as an investment into your health that you will be committing yourself to a few times a week for the 10-15 years, get advice from an expert.

We personally deliver, assemble, and service all of the equipment we sell. All of the manufacturers we represent offer very impressive warranties. There is no need to purchase an extended warranty from a 3rd party company. Remember that this 3rd party warranty (offered typically at chain stores) doesn't improve the quality of the machine and doesn't necessarily mean the treadmill will be fixed by someone who knows what they're doing. We are very straight forward with our pricing. Our pricing on all of our treadmills include the delivery, assembly, and warranty.

    THE FIVE MOST IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
    1. How many people are going to use the machine and what do they plan to use it for? A one person user who is just going to walk on the treadmill is going to buy a very different machine than a family of four who plan to run on it. A common story with people who come into our store is that they have already burned through 2 or 3 treadmills. Purchase the right equipment the first time.
    2. How comfortable are you walking or running on the treadmill? (Do the belt's width and length accomodate your natural stride? Do you like the softness/hardness of the deck? Do you feel safe?) Are the handrails in the way or not enough? How important are the treadmill's electronic features - readouts, programmable workouts, heart-rate training capability -- to your satisfaction with the treadmill?
    3. Does the machine feel stable when you're on it? Every treadmill on the market will have a weight capacity. The higher the weight capacity, the better the treadmill. Consumers are being told to invest into a treadmill that has a motor with a good horsepower. Some manufacturers have been inflating the size of the reading on their motor to make it sound more powerful than it is. The weight capacity of the machine is a clear indicator of the quality of the machine. If you're either a heavier person, or you are going to run on the machine, invest into a treadmill that is being straightforward with the strength of their machine. Stability also comes down to the frame construction as well. If the machine feels like it is moving around underneath you, does it feel natural? Look, listen, and feel.
    4. How important are the treadmill's electronic features--readouts, programmable workouts, heart-rate training capability?
    5. What's the treadmill's life expectancy, and what are the details of the warranty? How is repair service provided, and what routine maintenance are you expected to do?

    LOOK, LISTEN, AND FEEL
    • The motor: Does it run smoothly and without eardrum-shattering noise?
    • The belt: Does it move consistently at your speed setting, or does it sometimes stutter, slip or slide off-center?
    • Surface area: Is there enough room to accomodate your stride, and does the surface feel firm but forgiving?
    • The controls: Are they logically arranged and easy to operate?
    • The display console: Is it designed in an attractive, sensible way that is informative and fun to read?
    • Safety: Are you comfortable with the position of the handrails, and is the emergency shut-off button visible and easy to reach?
    • Response time and smoothness: Does the treadmill respond readily to height and speed adjustments, but not so abruptly that it gives you a hard jolt?
    • Incline and speed: Do the machine's maximum incline and speed satisfy your training needs? Does the treadmill seem stable at top speed?
    • Customized, pre-programmed and heart-rate-controlled workouts. Once the dealer gets you started, can you understand and then master the treadmill's training features?
    • Suitability for runners: All in all, are you confident that the machine was built with a runner's needs in mind?

    WHY BUY A TREADMILL?
    • Treadmills are the most natural form of exercise because they replicate walking and running
    • Treadmills provide built- in motivation enabling you to set the tempo at which you wish to exercise
    • Treadmills replicate walking up hills or mountains with incline features
    • Treadmills naturally absorb shock, lowering the impact of the workout.
    • Treadmills provide a safe and secure haven, like any indoor fitness equipment, by keeping you in a dry and safe climate controlled environment (your home).
    • You can focus on your workout rather than obstacles in the road! You can also watch television or read.

    TREADMILL STUDY
Privacy & Convenience Make Treadmills Work

The University of Pittsburgh conducted a study that assigned exercise routines to three groups of overweight women. The first group was instructed to walk in a single session at least 40 minutes a day. The second was told to break the walk into 10 minute sessions. The third received the same instructions as Group 2, but each person was given a treadmill. This group lost the most weight with an average of 23 pounds, compared to 18 pounds for the other two. The convenience and privacy offered by the treadmill were the major reasons, researchers said.
